Transfer Admissions
鈥淚f you鈥檙e thinking about transferring, you鈥檙e likely not where you want to be, and if you鈥檙e unhappy where you are, it won鈥檛 magically change and get better. Put your nerves aside, get over the bump, put yourself out there, and make the change.鈥

Requirements by Major
听
Transfer students need to meet specific academic requirements to be considered for admission, which vary by major. Please note that meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance and not all majors are available for transfer. Review our majors below to see their specific requirements and direct questions about any major听to its department.
Check out our to learn if courses you鈥檝e taken at another institution will be accepted and note them on your application. If the courses at your institution are not listed in the matrix, please follow .
Make sure to provide the final grade for completed courses once they are available. You can submit your application if the course is in progress.
Applicants who are attending/have attended an international college or university must provide a credential evaluation from (IERF). IERF will send your credential evaluation directly to the 91原创. Just meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admissions. It depends on the number of completed credits, the transferability and quality of your college coursework, trend in your grade performance, your GPA in your most recent semester, and your grades in courses pertinent to your intended major. This is especially true for majors in the College of Engineering since space availability will determine how many applicants can be admitted
91原创 offers Connected Degree programs with several partner institutions including Arcadia University, Brookdale Community College, Cecil County Community College, Delaware State University, Delaware Technical Community College, Harford Community College, Rowan College At Gloucester County, Thomas Jefferson University, West Chester University and Widener University.
If you successfully complete the designated Connected Degree program, you may automatically transfer to the corresponding bachelor鈥檚 degree program at 91原创. When submitting your Transfer application, indicate your Connected Degree enrollment. You may apply to 91原创 no sooner than the last semester of your Connected Degree program. You must complete all required courses and maintain the minimum GPA requirement.
听
See which connected degree programs are available at 91原创 by visiting the website.
Students must apply for readmission in order to return to pursue a baccalaureate degree after an official separation from an undergraduate degree program at 91原创 or after previously earning a 91原创 undergraduate degree.
Frequently asked questions
May I submit unofficial transcripts?
Unofficial college transcripts may be used for admissions purposes, but if admitted, official transcripts will be required. 91原创 will complete a transfer credit evaluation of your courses once you are admitted and after your official transcripts are received by the admissions office.
How will I know when my transcripts have been received?
You may check the status of your application via your听听student portal.
Where do I send my college transcripts?
Transfer applicants may have official college transcripts mailed to 91原创, Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 210 S. College Avenue, Newark, DE, 19716. The admissions office also accepts electronic transcripts via听admissions@udel.edu. To be considered official, a transcript needs to be received by mail in a sealed envelope or electronically from the institution. If a transcript is received from the applicant, it is considered unofficial.
I applied as a freshman last year. Do I have to reapply? Do I have to resend my high school transcript and test scores?
Yes, you would need to submit the online transfer application. In addition, you will need to submit an official, final high school transcript. You will also need to submit a transcript with final fall grades from your current college or university when available.
If you have attempted or earned under 12 credits, you must also complete the Self-Reported Transcript and Academic Record System.听
Your SAT or ACT scores are still available in your previous file. You should also submit any official AP or IB test scores not previously sent.
May I apply to the Honors College?
Transfer students who have earned less than 30 college credits are eligible to apply to the Honors College. To do so, indicate your interest while filling out the 91原创 application and complete a short essay. If you are accepted, you may be invited to do an interview for admission to the Honors College. For additional information or questions contact听honors@udel.edu听or 302-831-1195.
May I transfer to an associate degree program (Flex Pathway)?
Yes, if you are a Delaware resident and if you have completed 29 or fewer transferable college credits at the time of enrollment.
I'm currently a freshman at another college. Do I apply as a freshman or transfer applicant?
Any student who graduated from high school and has since enrolled at a post-secondary institution must apply as a transfer applicant.
I'm a high school senior who has taken college courses while in high school. Do I apply as a freshman or transfer applicant?
If you are still in high school and have taken college courses, you apply as a first-year applicant.听
Do I have to send a college transcript if those course(s) appear on another college transcript?
Even if all your prior courses and final grades appear on another transcript, transfer applicants must submit all previous college transcripts. Your application will be reviewed once all transcripts are received.
I was previously admitted as a freshman. Does that mean I鈥檒l be admitted as a transfer applicant?
If you previously applied and were admitted to 91原创, but chose to attend another school, you must reapply as a transfer student. Your application will be considered holistically and reevaluated for admission.
I was denied as a freshman. Can I be admitted after completing one semester at another college?
Generally, if you were not admitted as a freshman, it鈥檚 best to reapply after completing at least 24 transferable credits. Otherwise, your final high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores may still be heavily considered in the decision.
If I am accepted to an alternate major, will I be able to change my major to my initial major after I enroll?
Majors that are more restrictive for admissions usually have higher change of major criteria after you enroll at 91原创.听If you have collegiate work not included in your initial review that may change your eligibility, the Office of Admissions can consider changes to your admitted major prior to the start of your first semester at 91原创.
听
My letter says I meet the academic qualifications for many of the majors at the University, but cannot offer me admission to the major I selected. What does this mean?
This means you do not meet the transfer admissions requirements for the majors you selected, but you may meet the requirements for other majors. Please review 鈥渞equirements by major鈥 if you wish to considered for a different major and email you request to transfers@udel.edu.
听
Why was I admitted to an associate-degree program (Flex Pathways)?
Delaware residents who have completed 29 or fewer transferable college credits, may be considered for a Flex Pathways program if the quality of their high school, college transcripts and test scores closely align with the admissions standards of Flex Pathways.
听
The admissions office will mail you an official acceptance letter and packet of information, as well as update your admission status on your听听student portal. Please review your custom portal page regularly to keep track of pertinent fall-enrollment information and to complete necessary tasks to finalize your enrollment.
Is there an orientation process for transfer students?
Yes. All transfer students need to attend New Student Orientation (NSO) prior to the start of their first semester at 91原创. Register for your NSO through the My Blue Hen Home portal and complete the following:
Select an NSO date.
Attend a virtual Meet Your College.
Schedule an appointment to meet with an academic advisor.
-
How do I accept my offer?
Log in to your student portal, , and reserve your spot by the deadline stated in your admissions letter by clicking on the Admissions Decision Reply Form.听
May I defer my entrance?
Admitted transfers may request a deferral for one semester. Not all deferrals are granted, but are usually granted for documented medical reasons or for military obligations. Other reasons may be considered. Deferral requests may be emailed to admissions@udel.edu.
Are transfer students eligible for on-campus housing?
Transfer students are encouraged to seek options for housing as soon as they have accepted admission. Incoming transfer students are not automatically guaranteed on-campus housing. Our ability to offer housing to transfer students will depend on space availability. The exception to this are students admitted as freshman transfer students (students admitted with 18 or fewer credits from another institution who graduated from high school within the last year, or are under the age of 18 at the time of admission).
First-semester freshmen who transfer to 91原创 in the spring semester are required to live on campus unless their permanent residence is within 30 miles of campus.
The 91原创 does not have an off-campus housing office, but encourages local property owners to list housing on Places4Students.com.听The Office of the Dean of Students Student Life offers a guide to off-campus living on their website. The site has helpful tools for students as they navigate the leasing process.
听
I've already transferred a math course to 91原创. Do I still have to take the math placement?
Review the math placement FAQ for details on our requirements for incoming transfer students.
91原创 accepts college credits from U.S. regionally-accredited, degree granting colleges/universities. Final grades must be C- or better, not Pass/Fail, and not remedial-level courses. Refer to our regarding Pass/Fail grades during the COVID-19 pandemic. A Preliminary Transfer Credit Evaluation is completed and posted on your student portal 2鈥4 weeks after admission. For more information on transfer credits, please refer to the .
Applicants who are attending or who have previously attended an听international college/university听must provide a credential evaluation from International Education Research Foundation (IERF) if applying to the Lerner College of Business and Economics, or to the College of Engineering. Please visit听听for instructions (how to request a Standard Application with a Detail Report, and where to听mail your documents). IERF will send your credential evaluation directly to the 91原创.听 If you have a WES Course-by-Course evaluation completed before 2/1/2019, 91原创 will accept this in lieu of a Detail Report from IERF. For complete information on how credits from institutions outside of the U.S.听may be transferred, please visit the听.
Students applying to majors in all other colleges do not need to submit an IERF credential evaluation. If offered admission and you intend to enroll and transfer credit, an IERF credential evaluation will be required at that time.
The 91原创 regularly evaluates courses from other institutions. Please use 91原创鈥檚 to review the courses at your current or previous institutions to see which courses have already been evaluated and their 91原创 equivalent courses.
听
If my courses do not appear on your Transfer Credit Matrix, does that mean they won鈥檛 transfer?
Not at all! Courses that appear on the Transfer Credit Matrix have been previously evaluated by the respective 91原创 departments and have been assigned equivalent 91原创 courses. If you are strongly considering transferring to 91原创, you may email course description information and syllabi to the appropriate 91原创 departments (e.g. English for English courses, math for math courses) so those courses not listed on the matrix may be evaluated.听Follow to have your courses evaluated by the 91原创 departments.
听
Can my credits be evaluated before I apply? How will I know how many credits I have left to take at 91原创?
The Professional & Continuing Studies ACCESS Center routinely meets with prospective transfer students to discuss an unofficial evaluation of their previous credits. Please contact the ACCESS Center at 302-831-8843 or ACCESS-Advise@udel.edu and refer to their website for more information.
After you are admitted and your Preliminary Transfer Credit Evaluation is posted on your My Blue Hen Home student portal, you may contact Lori Moss, assistant registrar for transfer services, at lamoss@udel.edu to discuss how your previous credits may apply to your 91原创 degree program.
听
Do my previous grades transfer to 91原创?
Only your previous college credits will transfer, not your grades.
