Medical laboratory science is a dynamic field that encompasses the essence of biology, chemistry, and medicine. It plays a vital role in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease through the analysis of blood, tissues, and other body fluids. Medical laboratory scientists perform complex laboratory tests that provide critical information used to monitor health and guide patient care decisions.听Our medical laboratory science program equips students with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel in this field. Graduates are prepared to sit for national certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC), opening the door to a rewarding and impactful career in healthcare.
Freshmen enter as medical laboratory science interest majors. Admission requirements to enter the medical laboratory science major at the end of the sophomore year include: a minimum 2.50 GPA for the first 4 semesters, a minimum 2.50 GPA for prerequisite courses in chemistry and biological sciences (science index), and completion of at least 60 credit hours, including the prerequisite courses.听Admission to the MLS-BS major is competitive and is determined by academic achievement.
