The Science of Nutrition

The Nutrition and Medical Sciences major prepares students who want to work in healthcare or medical fields, such as becoming a doctor, physician assistant, dentist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, or other health professional. Students build a strong background in science through courses in biology, chemistry, and human physiology. They also learn how the body uses nutrients, how diseases affect health, how medications work, and how diet can help prevent and manage illness.

What鈥檚 special about this program?

The听Nutrition and Medical Sciences major uniquely prepares individuals to pursue an advanced degree in medicine, other health-related professions or graduate school programs. This major can also lead to a career in laboratory research in pharmaceutical or food industries, health policy and advocacy, or academia. Specifically for those interested in becoming a physician assistant, this major has an affiliation agreement for up to three Nutrition and Medical Sciences students annually, who meet the admissions criteria, to have preferential application review and reserved seats in Widener University's Physician Assistant Program. With science as the foundation,听Nutrition and Medical Sciences prepares future scientists and nutritionists and health care professionals. Additionally, the Health Behavior and Nutrition Sciences Department offers a major in Nutrition and Dietetics.
