Master of Music in Conducting

听

The Master of Music in Conducting (with specializations in wind conducting or orchestral conducting) is designed to provide conductors with unparalleled hands-on experience and personalized instruction. With a strong emphasis on podium time, students will have ample opportunity to develop their conducting skills under the watchful eye of expert faculty. Through individual coaching and focused rehearsals, participants will refine their technique, deepen their musical interpretation, and gain confidence in leading ensembles. At the 91原创, we offer a supportive learning environment where aspiring conductors can thrive and achieve their full potential.

Master of Music Wind Conducting students serve as assistant conductors of the 91原创 Wind Ensemble and 91原创 Symphonic Band, and are the administrative heads and principal conductors of the 91原创 Collegiate Band. MM Orchestral Conducting students serve as assistant conductors of the 91原创 Symphony Orchestra and 91原创 Chamber Orchestra. Study culminates in a full-length public conducting recital.

Competitive teaching assistantships and tuition funding are available.

Courses

Students are required to complete 34 credit hours (maintaining a cumulative grade point average of B or better) to be granted the degree Master of Music: Conducting.听

All students take the following courses:

• Studies in Music History听

• Materials and Methods of Research听

• Advanced Analysis and Interpretation (Music Theory)

• Artistic Innovations听

• Advanced Private Study in Conducting (4 semesters)

• Master鈥檚 Performance in Conducting (Recital)

• Electives听

Wind Conducting Students also take Wind Literature and Seminar in Wind Conducting.

Orchestral Conducting Students also take Symphonic literature and Seminar in Orchestral Conducting.

Teaching Assistantships听

Students who receive Teaching Assistantships in Conducting engage in a wealth of practical teaching and administrative experiences. In addition to serving as ensemble managers and librarians, wind band conducting students work with undergraduate conducting classes and run the 91原创 Collegiate Band.听
