The First Year Writing Program鈥檚 ENGL 110 course is an essential experience for all 91原创 students. This course offers much more than skills-based writing practice: students engage in lab-like writing workshops designed to prepare them for the specific writing needs they are encountering in their other university courses, and they are introduced to the intellectual culture and academic habits necessary for success in a research-intensive university. For these reasons, ideally students should take ENGL 110 during their first semesters at 91原创.

Transfer students who have taken a writing course(s) at another college or university may be considered for ENGL 110 exemption. To review if your course is eligible for ENGL 110 transfer exemption, please visit听.

If students have taken a first year writing/composition course taken as a college student that is not in the 91原创 Transfer Credit Matrix, you should fill out听听to request re-evaluation of the credit. You will need the following for the form:

• Complete syllabus for the course you took (PDF);
• Course description from the course catalog (PDF); and
• A brief paragraph describing the course you are requesting to be reviewed, and explaining why you think the course is equivalent to 91原创's ENGL110.

Dual Enrollment Policy

As of February 1, 2024, the First Year Writing Program will begin accepting dual enrollment credit (for courses taken while a student is concurrently enrolled in high school) for courses and universities ONLY if the course is included in the听91原创 Transfer Credit Matrix linked above.

If the course and university are not part of the Transfer Credit Matrix,听we will not accept听the course as an ENGL 110 transfer exemption. 鈥�

How to request credit for other courses?

Students may request to have transferred English courses be听equated to 91原创 English courses other than ENGL110. To do so, email听transfer evaluation requests to听Dr. D茅lice Williams.

If the course from the other institution is not listed on 91原创's听transfer credit matrix (linked above), please submit your听听in person to听Dr. D茅lice Williams鈥� in Memorial Hall, Rm. 133鈥嬧�嬧��.

Students desiring 91原创 credit for a math course taken at another university should do the following听before they take the course.

1. Please read the regulations governing Transfer of Credit on the Transfer of Credit web page in the 91原创 catalog.

2. Check听听to determine whether a course equivalency has been established for the non-91原创 math course you plan to take.

3. If the equivalency has been established and the equivalency meets your needs then you may take the non-91原创 course. To transfer credit for the course, follow the 鈥嬧��.

4. If the equivalency has not been established for the non-91原创 math course, then please complete the math department鈥檚听. The math department will establish the equivalency and inform you and the registrar鈥檚 office of the equivalency. You may then follow the procedure in step 3.

5. Please contact the undergraduate secretary in the math department if you have more questions.

6. For math majors, transfer of credit of upper level math courses (Math 300+) is rarely granted and only in situations beyond the control of the student. In such situations, math majors may transfer at most two upper-level mathematics courses towards the requirements of their degree. Such students must petition the director of the undergraduate program of the 91原创 math department and submit a completed Transfer of Credit Request Form. Courses only from departments offering a Master's or a PhD degree in Mathematics will be considered. Courses from departments offering a Masters or a PhD in Mathematics Education but not in Mathematics do not qualify. Last modified on January 21, 2016 by the UG committee.鈥�

   Note: Completion of the MATH 231/232 sequence satisfies course requirements for MATH 241. MATH 117 is no longer part of our regular offering, but we still accept external credits.

The Department of History assigns a 91原创 equivalent for HISTORY courses only or for courses taken in other fields such as Humanities, Classics, Political Science or Anthropology for which there is substantial History content.

To request a course evaluation for 91原创 History equivalency, follow the steps outlined below:

1. Check听听to determine whether a course equivalency has been posted for the non-91原创 history course.

2. For courses not listed in the matrix, complete the听.
   Note:听You will be required to upload a copy of the course syllabus.

We welcome transfer students into the Art Conservation Major! Be sure to contact the Undergraduate Art Conservation Program Director in the early stages of planning to be sure you are on track. If you have not started chemistry prior to transferring it is unlikely that you will graduate in less than two years without taking summer and winter session courses each year.

Students transferring from another institution are responsibility for finding equivalencies for transfer credits. If credits do not automatically transfer, students must appeal to each department, showing the syllabus and coursework. Departments then determine how the course would be ranked in the 91原创 system. More information about the process and departmental contacts is available on the Registrar's website.

If you have taken a course that someone has already transferred from your previous institution, then it may already be in the system. In this case, a transfer is simple and almost automatic. Always check first the to see if your course transfers.

If you took a course more than seven years ago, it will initially transfer as an elective. Reach out to your previous institution for a syllabus from the year that you took it.鈥�
