Faculty and Staff in Art ConservationÌýÌý
Ìý

The Department of Art Conservation at the 91Ô´´ brings together faculty and staff with expertise across conservation disciplines, including new media and preventive conservation. Through research, teaching and mentorship, they prepare students for careers preserving cultural heritage and provide hands-on experience with the challenges of conservation practice.

Undergraduate students complete most of their coursework in classrooms and the conservation laboratory on the University’s Newark campus. In their junior and senior years, they may also intern with faculty at Winterthur. Students learn from conservators, conservation scientists, 91Ô´´ faculty, museum professionals and visiting instructors representing a wide range of disciplines and professional backgrounds.

Students in the master’s program benefit from 91Ô´´â€™s long-standing collaboration with Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library. They complete most of their coursework in the Louise duPont Crowninshield Research Building at Winterthur, home to a major museum analytical laboratory and seven conservation studios. Students work closely with 91Ô´´, Winterthur and affiliated faculty who are leaders in the field.

Students in the Preservation Studies doctoral program work with faculty and experts in areas including art history, anthropology and Africana studies, as well as with Winterthur scientists, the Disaster Center, the Biden School of Public Policy and external mentors.

The Department of Art Conservation’s administrative offices are in Old College on the University’s Newark campus. For general information, call 302-831-3489 or email art-conservation@udel.edu.
