Applied Physiology MS

Program Overview

The Master of Science in Applied Physiology provides a concentrated program of academic study for students interested in a deeper understanding of theory and applications related to the functioning of the human body during physical activity. The program is supported with well-equipped research facilities, including 3D video capabilities, electromyography and force platforms, as well as equipment for measurement of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary function, bone mineral density, body composition, functional muscular capacity, blood lactate and more unit discharge. Graduate students in this program are expected to participate in ongoing, faculty-directed research programs.

Students interested in the MS in Applied Physiology program are encouraged to apply before December 15th for priority consideration.听Prior to beginning the application process, students must identify a faculty advisor and complete the appropriate听supplemental documentation.

Those applicants who meet the below stated minimum academic requirements are not guaranteed admission, nor are those applicants who fail to meet those minimum requirements necessarily precluded from admission if they offer other appropriate strengths. Admission requirements:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or equivalent science or health related degree from an accredited college/university
  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Personal Essay
  • Current Resume/CV
  • Three Letters of Recommendations

  • Core Requirements (6 credits)
    • Six credits of coursework in the individual planned program of study with advisor鈥檚 approval. One course in research methods and one statistics course are required.
    • KAAP601 Research Methods
    • KAAP602 Data Analysis and Interpretation in Health Sciences
  • Applied Physiology Requirements (15 credits)
    • Eighteen credits including a minimum of 12 credits KAAP鈥恜refixed coursework for the individual鈥檚 planned program of study.
  • Thesis Option (6 credits)
    • Thesis Credits (KAAP869) (6 credits)
  • Non Thesis Option (6 credits)
    • Research Credits (KAAP868) (6 credits) or
    • Research Credits (KAAP868) (3 credits) and 3鈥恈redits of additional coursework at the 600鈥恖evel or above
  • Individual programs of study are developed in consultation with the student鈥檚 advisor. Programs of study will vary based on student goals and faculty鈥恠pecific interests in student training.
