Short Term Programs
Students studying for four weeks or less only need to complete the Health History & Emergency Contact form.
Tuberculosis (TB)
All ELI students听from a country that has been identified as听high-risk听must be tested for Tuberculosis using the Quantiferon听test before coming to Delaware.
After taking the Quantiferon test, the student must do the following:
- Ask the doctor to complete听the 鈥淭uberculosis鈥 section of the student鈥檚听immunization form; and
- Send the听immunization form听to the 91原创 at least 2 weeks before the program begins.
If you did not get tested before coming to Delaware, you will be required to take the Quantiferon test at the 91原创 Student Health Services clinic on the first day of your program. This test will cost听US $45.
For more information, contact听ud-eli@udel.edu.
Do you need to be tested for Tuberculosis?
Only students from specific 鈥渉igh-risk鈥 countries need to be tested for Tuberculosis (TB).
Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR)
All ELI听students (new and continuing) are听required听to be vaccinated with听2 doses听of Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine before coming to Delaware. The date of the vaccine must be written on the student鈥檚听Immunization Form linked above.
Students who do not obtain the MMR vaccine before coming to Delaware will be required to get it at 91原创鈥檚 Student Health Services when they arrive.听Students cannot begin their classes without getting both doses of the MMR vaccine.听The price to get an MMR vaccine at 91原创 is听US $88 per dose.
We highly recommend that students obtain the MMR vaccine in their home country, as it is likely to be cheaper and they will avoid beginning their classes late (and violating ELI鈥檚 absence policy).
Students who obtain the MMR vaccine in their home country must bring their proof of immunization to Delaware on their first day of Orientation so that they can avoid being vaccinated again (and to avoid paying听the fee).
Meningococcal vaccine
The Meningococcal vaccine is not required by Delaware State Law.
The 91原创 Student Health Services (on-campus clinic) is required to inform students about the vaccine. Students must choose be vaccinated or to decline the vaccine; you can indicate your choice on the听Immunization Form linked above.
Health insurance requirements
All students are required to have health insurance. Medical听costs in the USA are very expensive. Health insurance helps to pay for medical expenses so that students can avoid having high medical bills.
