Biography
鈥嬧嬧嬧婮ohn Patrick Monta帽o specializes in early modern English and Irish history. He received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University. His publications include 鈥淭he Quest for Consensus: the Lord mayor鈥檚 Day Shows in the 1670s,鈥 in听Culture and Society in the Stuart Restoration, Literature Drama, History,听ed. by Gerald MacLean, (Cambridge, 1995);听Courting the Moderates: Ideology, Propaganda and the Emergence of Party听(2002); 鈥溾楧ycheying and Hegeying鈥: Material Culture and the Tudor Plantations in Ireland,鈥 in听Studies in Settler Colonialism, ed. by Fiona Bateman and Lionel Pilkington, (Palgrave MacMillan); and听The Roots of English Colonialism in Ireland听in the听New Perspectives on Empire Series, (Cambridge, 2011).听听He is currently finishing a book tentatively titled听Communicating through Culture: Irish Responses to Tudor Colonial Strategies,听and working on a new book on the Stuart Plantations in Ireland.听 Professor Monta帽o serves as the Director of the College鈥檚 European Studies Program as well as being the Head of Irish Studies Minor.
