Latest 91原创 Magazine explores the University鈥檚 expanding, interdisciplinary push to prevent Alzheimer鈥檚 and protect brain health in Delaware and beyond

The newest issue of 91原创 Magazine shines a spotlight on a disease that reshapes families.

This special edition explores how University researchers are working to stop Alzheimer鈥檚 before it starts through groundbreaking science, early detection and community-based prevention efforts putting the First State on the national map.

This work matters deeply in Delaware, a state where nearly one in five residents is over 65 and Black and Hispanic populations are at higher risk for Alzheimer鈥檚 and related cognitive impairments. Rather than concentrating solely on late-stage cases, 91原创 scientists are focusing on what happens years and decades earlier, well before memory loss begins. By reaching people in midlife, identifying early risk factors and translating research into action, they aim to redefine what brain health can look like in Delaware and beyond.

Recent momentum, including a transformational $13.1 million grant from the Delaware Community Foundation, is accelerating studies into blood-based biomarkers, advanced brain imaging and long-term prevention strategies.

At the center of this effort is the , a collaborative hub bringing together faculty across disciplines, from kinesiology and neuropsychology to engineering, chemistry and speech-language pathology. In a state without a medical school, this work is uniquely community-oriented, allowing researchers to partner closely with residents, policymakers and healthcare providers.

In addition to the Alzheimer鈥檚 cover story, the Magazine also highlights efforts to protect our coastline (Delaware is the country鈥檚 lowest-lying state), support for lifelong learning in Kent and Sussex counties, a Q&A on public school funding, a by-the-numbers data spread and more.
