When Ryann Pinter, a junior at the 91原创, first reviewed her study abroad itinerary, she knew that the visit to Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary would be the highlight of her trip to Sydney, Australia.

Pinter, a third-year nursing student, got acquainted with Arnold the Koala and had the opportunity to encounter other Australian wildlife, including emus, kangaroos, wallabies, pythons and wombats. During this visit to the Walkabout Wildlife Sanctuary on the 2025 Winter Session nursing study abroad program, Pinter developed a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts and healthcare practices in other cultures.

鈥淭he thought of seeing kangaroos, koalas and wallabies in their natural habitat fascinated me,鈥 Pinter noted in her聽聽post about her time abroad this Winter Session. 鈥淥nce we arrived, the experience exceeded all my expectations. Kangaroos were hopping all around us, and we even got to pet them.鈥

But the excitement did not end there. At the sanctuary, Pinter and her classmates had the opportunity to hold the second-largest snake in Australia, which was followed by an encounter with an 11-month old wombat. Pinter said the wombat even fell asleep in her arms.听

鈥淢y favorite part of the entire day was seeing all the animals happy and roaming freely in their natural environment,鈥 Pinter wrote. 鈥淚t left me with a deeper appreciation for wildlife and conservation efforts.鈥

While Pinter, a nursing student, set off on the to develop her knowledge of international healthcare practices, she embraced cultural experiences offered outside the classroom, which left her with a newfound love for Australian wildlife.
