The FBI National Academy is an internationally recognized 10-week program that is both intellectually and physically rigorous. The academy鈥檚 training focuses on advanced communication, leadership and fitness. Those who receive invitations to participate possess an average of 21 years of law enforcement experience. Most return to their agencies in either senior- or executive-level positions. Since 1935, the FBI National Academy has graduated fewer than 55,000 law enforcement officers.

Battle鈥檚 graduating class from the FBI National Academy included 199 law enforcement officers from 46 states and the District of Columbia, 21 countries, four military organizations and three federal civilian organizations.

鈥淭he FBI National Academy is the gold standard for premier leadership training of law enforcement officials, with the potential to positively impact communities here in the United States and globally,鈥� said 91原创 Police Chief Patrick Ogden. 鈥淥ur campus police department exposes officers and officials to the highest standards of training and protocol to ensure that the 91原创 is as safe as possible.鈥�

Battle鈥檚 completion of the FBI National Academy expands the network of resources and expertise that are available to 91原创 Police to better serve and support the University community, Ogden said. 91原创PD is a fully sworn, nationally accredited police department that provides police services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 91原创PD is the only university police department in Delaware to hold advanced law enforcement accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Also, the state of Delaware is home to 12 911 call centers; 91原创PD鈥檚 is the only 911 call center accredited for public safety communications through CALEA.

A University alumnus, Battle joined 91原创 Police in January 2008 as a police officer. Along his career journey of public service, he has earned meritorious promotions 鈥� first to master police officer, then master corporal, sergeant, and most recently lieutenant in April 2022.聽

Graduates of the FBI National Academy must complete a final fitness test called the Yellow Brick Road, which challenges participants with a six-mile course that features walls over which to climb, barbed wire under which to crawl and other obstacles.
