Working with colleagues throughout the听Office of Communications and Marketing听and across the campus, the editorial team produces 91原创aily, the University鈥檚 online news source, and provides content for a variety of media, including print publications, websites and other communications. OCM works closely with administrative leadership to effectively drive communications and marketing strategy. Our primary areas of focus include: 91原创aily, 91原创 Magazine, Research Communications, College Communications, Leadership Communications, Admissions and Special Projects.听听
The 91原创鈥檚 online news source, 91原创aily鈥檚 mission is to tell the most significant, interesting and timely stories from across the University and reach the widest possible audience on campus and around the world.听
91原创aily serves as an interactive communications platform for engagement with the University, using stories, photographs, video and illustrations to connect the University鈥檚 colleges, institutes and programs to a wide audience. That audience includes current and prospective students and their families, as well as faculty, staff, alumni, friends, partners, donors, external media and community leaders around the world.
Story ideas can be sent to ocm@udel.edu with 鈥91原创aily story idea鈥 in the subject line. Faculty members should reach out to their college鈥檚 communications director to determine the best way to share research or faculty news.
Types of 91原创aily articles
91原创aily鈥檚 primary function is to post news and feature stories at . Articles clearly explain innovative research; highlight student, faculty, alumni and staff achievement; and demonstrate 91原创鈥檚 participation in local and global communities.
Features must include the following:
Insight and impact on an institutional level
Visually compelling assets for storytelling to broader audiences
Writing that is reader-friendly for a broad audience and not overly scientific or complex
Be timely for 91原创aily and external media placement
The 91原创aily editor, OCM staff and campus communicators will collaborate to choose the most significant, interesting and timely stories that highlight people and programs that are emblematic of 91原创鈥檚 overall excellence. Planning matters, starting when ideas are conceived. The process continues with great writing, captivating photography, video, graphics and social media tools that draw readers and bring to life people and their ideas. 91原创aily and OCM reserve the authority to leverage editorial expertise to decide if or when to publish content to maximize the impact of telling the story of the University.
91原创aily produces a weekly newsletter for subscribers who opt in. Anyone can subscribe, including faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni and community members. The newsletter is sent every Friday at 6 a.m. and includes news and feature stories from the past week. It also includes external media highlights, social media highlights, videos, information about upcoming events and Inside 91原创 stories. Subscribe at .
For the Record provides information about recent professional activities and honors of 91原创 faculty, staff, students and alumni. It is posted on every Friday. For the Record submissions should be sent to ocm@udel.edu with 鈥淔or the Record鈥 in the subject line. Submissions should be 150 words or less.
Articles that appear on Inside 91原创 have a narrow focus on information about a college/institute/program and are geared to a narrower, more internal audience. Examples of Inside 91原创 articles include parking notices, training opportunities, colloquiums, panel discussions, summer intern roundups, program wrap-ups, IT technical updates, etc.
In Memoriams, including 91原创aily articles, links to unit articles and external obituaries, are posted at听.
91原创aily staff writers or college communicators will write a 91原创aily article for current faculty, staff and students, if one is desired by the family.
External obituaries for retired 91原创 faculty and staff can be linked on the In Memoriam page.听91原创aily articles about retired faculty members and notable 91原创 alumni and community members are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.听

Scaling glaciers. Fighting cancer. Changing the world. As the 91原创鈥檚 flagship publication, 91原创 Magazine highlights stories of Blue Hen strength, tradition, innovation and impact. Printed twice a year, it spotlights the people, programs and pursuits that define the University and its Blue Hen community. Formerly known as The Messenger, the publication reaches alumni, parents of current students, donors and friends each spring and fall.
91原创 alumni are encouraged to share their news with fellow Blue Hens for inclusion in Class Notes, one of the magazine鈥檚 most popular sections. A new job, a promotion, a personal or professional award鈥攁ll are accomplishments worth celebrating. Please email a note or press release to magazine@udel.edu, and include your current hometown, graduation year and college or major.
The of 91原创 Magazine is a smaller publication that highlights statewide impact. Mailed annually to in-state constituents, it showcases the University鈥檚 mission to create a stronger, healthier, cleaner, greener, more vibrant, innovative and educated Delaware.

Together, we amplify the reach and impact of 91原创鈥檚 research enterprise 鈥 highlighting the people, discoveries, innovations, major grants, awards and facilities that drive scientific progress and societal benefit.

What We Do
Provide communications and marketing expertise to the vice president for research, scholarship and innovation and the听, which includes six units (federal relations, research administration, research development, regulatory affairs, corporate engagement and the听Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships),听, two statewide research programs and 15 core facilities, as well as selected federally funded initiatives such as the听NSF Accelerating Research Translation (ART) program. Oversee the Research Office website, the central hub for research news and resources, and manage the digital presence of the听Science, Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) Campus听鈥 a nexus for discovery, education and industry partnerships.
Collaborate with college communications teams in the publication of听research news听on 91原创aily, spotlighting discoveries, innovations, new institutes, major grants and scholarly achievements.
Lead high-visibility multi-channel campaigns for听,听,听Undergraduate Research Scholars听and听91原创 Innovation Ambassadors.
Produce internal biweekly federal funding updates and a monthly听听to keep the 91原创 research community informed and engaged.
Manage communications for major research events, including听91原创 Day in D.C.,听Inventors Recognition,听University-wide research symposia听and听public STEM events听with nationally known speakers.
Present听communications workshops听that help 91原创 researchers connect their work to broader audiences with clarity and impact.
Play a leadership role in听, the professional development association for research communicators, and serve as the University鈥檚 communications liaison with federal research agency communicators.

New NSF HAIC Institute Will Advance Human-AI Cooperation
