Patricia Sloane-White Elected to the Asian Council

Department chair, professor recognized for academic expertise
Patricia Sloane-White, chair of the Department of Women and Gender Studies and professor of anthropology, Asian studies and women and gender studies, has been elected to serve a three-year term with the Association for Asian Studies (AAS) Southeast Asia Council (SEAC).
Sloane-White鈥檚 election to SEAC recognizes her distinguished contributions to Southeast Asian studies and her interdisciplinary scholarship. In this leadership role, she will help shape the future direction of regional research, teaching and collaboration within the AAS, supporting scholars and advancing the field of Southeast Asian studies.
Established in 1970, the AAS councils represent the interests of scholars working in specific geographic areas and function as key policy bodies within the Association for Asian Studies, providing a vital link between the AAS Board of Directors and the membership at large. The Southeast Asia Council oversees a wide range of affiliated groups, including the Burma Studies Group, Committee on Research Materials on Southeast Asia (CORMOSEA), Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL), Indonesia鈥揟imor Leste Studies Committee (ITLSC), Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei Studies Group, Philippine Studies Group, Thailand/Laos/Cambodia Group, Transcultural and Translation Studies Group (TTSG), and the Vietnam Studies Group.
