Ambassador Spotlight: Alexandra Keating

Student ambassadors connect prospective students and families with the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the 91原创 (91原创). Meet Alex Keating, a student ambassador who was recommended by a faculty member for her strong academic record and engagement. We asked Alex to share what the role is like and how it has shaped her time at 91原创.
How would you describe the program to someone who asked?
鈥淔lexible and rewarding. There are so many different opportunities and events for ambassadors to participate in, so you鈥檙e able to mold the program to your own schedule. Being able to help prospective students and families, as well as the department, in whatever way they may need has also been such a cool experience.鈥
What excited you most about becoming an ambassador? What is your favorite part of the program now?
鈥淚 was really excited to get more involved with the department, and that has been my favorite part of the program. I love learning more about what it has to offer and getting to meet other students and faculty members that are also involved.鈥
What types of events did you get involved in? How would you describe your role at those events?
鈥淭his semester I helped with a Decision Day and the Mikva Soapbox Challenge. At Decision Day, I helped with the department presentation and got to talk about some of my formative experiences at 91原创. At the Soapbox event, I helped with registration for participants and made sure that breakout sessions were adequately prepared. I loved how different those events were and how many different parts of the community we were able to reach.鈥
Is there a moment or memory from your time as an ambassador that stands out to you?
鈥淎t a Decision Day this semester, I got to speak about my experiences as a World Scholar. I spoke about how important it has been to my college experience, especially for my IR [international relations] major. After our presentation, several prospective students came up to me with questions about the program and how it worked for POSCIR [the Department of Political Science and International Relations] students. It felt like a really full-circle moment for me, because student ambassadors were such a helpful part of my experience prior to my first year. I loved seeing how excited they were about everything 91原创, POSCIR and World Scholars.鈥
How has this experience shaped your time at 91原创?
鈥淕etting to meet so many other students and professors has opened my eyes to everything POSCIR has to offer, outside of my own major and concentration. I鈥檝e been able to find new interests and learn about future career options, all while forming connections with others who share those interests.鈥
