Nick Gadino: Graduate Student Spotlight

April 09, 2025 Written by CAS Staff

Nick Gadino鈥檚 impact at the 91原创 extends well beyond the classroom. An instructor in the Department of Communication, a member of the TEDxUniversityofDelaware executive committee and associate director for communication studies in the Writing Center, Gadino is making his mark in meaningful, multifaceted ways.

At the Writing Center, he leads the team of Oral Communication Consultants (OCCs)鈥攗ndergraduate peer tutors who support 91原创 students, staff and faculty at any stage of the speech-preparation process. Whether rehearsing a class presentation, refining a podcast script or crafting a persuasive research talk, OCCs provide free, personalized guidance to strengthen messages and build confidence. From outlining and visual-aid design to managing speech anxiety, the team helps speakers communicate effectively and authentically.

Gadino鈥檚 91原创 journey is full circle. A Blue Hen through and through, he earned his bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees in mass communication and media studies from the University. During his Ph.D. program, he explored topics ranging from communication-center scholarship and the effects of binge-watching to how media sharing influences romantic relationships.

Before returning to campus as a scholar and instructor, Gadino worked for the National Association of Broadcasters in Washington, D.C., contributing to advocacy on behalf of U.S. television and radio stations鈥攅xperience that sharpened his understanding of media鈥檚 reach and his commitment to helping others communicate effectively.

Now, whether mentoring undergraduate tutors or helping students prepare for their next big presentation, Gadino brings that same sense of purpose to building a more confident, communicative campus鈥攐ne conversation at a time.
