About this program
The 91原创's graduate degree programs in quantum science engineering (QSE) are designed to train a 鈥渜uantum workforce鈥 who hold the skills needed to realize this technological revolution.听The QSE discipline is focused on understanding and leveraging the unusual behavior of particles and excitations governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. Leveraging this unusual behavior could lead to the creation of computers that can perform calculations that are not feasible with classical computers, quantum sensors that can measure tiny changes not accessible to classical sensors, and quantum encryption that is unbreakable. Because of these exciting opportunities, there has been significant recent investment by both industry and the federal government to create larger scale devices that leverage the principles of quantum mechanics. Such quantum technologies are expected to be as transformational as the invention of the transistor.听
The QSE program offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. Most M.S. degrees include a thesis, but a non-thesis option is available.
