About this program

The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department offers programs leading to the degrees of master of science (M.S.) in electrical and computer engineering (on-campus or online), master of science (M.S.) in cybersecurity (on-campus or online), and doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in electrical and computer engineering. It also offers nine graduate certificates in electrical and computer engineering, five graduate certificates in cybersecurity, as well as a dual M.S./MBA and accelerated 4+1 degree programs.

Active areas of research include cybersecurity, computer systems, network science, big data sciences, machine learning, computational imaging, bioengineering, clean energy, communications, signal processing and controls, quantum science and engineering, computer and sensor networks, electromagnetics and photonics and nanoelectronics materials and devices.

The department maintains excellent facilities for teaching and research, including the iSuite, which encompasses a cybersecurity range, maker-space laboratory and collaboration hub; supercomputing and distributed computing systems; and clean rooms equipped for epitaxial crystal growth, semiconductor device fabrication and nanofabrication. Complementing these facilities are government-funded major research centers supporting the focus areas, including the Institute for Energy Conversion, Center for Composite Materials, Nanotechnology Center and the Delaware Biotechnology Institute.

Graduate students are expected to actively participate in research, including the development of presentations and publications detailing their research contributions.

Current 91Ô­´´ undergraduate students can be considered for admission to the 4+1 B.E.E./M.S. (i.e., bachelor of electrical engineering plus M.S. in electrical and computer engineering) or the 4+1 B.Cp.E./M.S. (i.e., bachelor of computer engineering degree plus M.S. in electrical and computer engineering). A dual degree combining the MBA and M.S. in electrical and computer engineering programs is available to graduate students.

TheÌýonline master of science in electrical and computer engineering helps you master skills taught in other ECE programs, and provides you with the critical insight to secure, protect and implement the systems you create. This flexible program uses foundational theory and hands-on skill building to challenge you to develop efficient designs and algorithms that incorporate defenses against cyber threats during information exchange.
