Minneapolis, MN

PROGRAM: Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Ph.D.

I had a great experience at this year鈥檚 APS conference in Minneapolis MN. I had the opportunity to attend several scientific talks that were relevant to my research interests focusing on lifestyle interventions and mechanisms of cardiovascular and metabolic disease. Additionally, I was able to attend multiple career seminars and lectures. Through this experience I was able to learn about potential careers other than staying in academia and learned insightful tips pertaining to applying and interviewing for jobs. I was especially grateful for this as I am a 3rd year student and am starting the job application process soon. At APS I also had the opportunity to network with other individuals in my field. I also presented data in the format of a poster presentation on Saturday night. The title of my poster was 鈥淭he effect of potassium supplementation on blood pressure reactivity under high-sodium conditions in normotensive men and women鈥. I was able to share my work with others as well as receive feedback, network, and learn about other similar ongoing projects in other labs. Overall, I had a great experience at APS attending talks, networking, and presenting.
