Biography

Timothy J. Shaffer is听the听inaugural Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) Chair of Civil Discourse听and director of the SNF Ithaca Initiative. Shaffer is also director of Civic Engagement and Deliberative Democracy with the听.

Shaffer serves as the associate editor of the听, as a country expert on deliberative democracy with the听听(V-Dem Institute) research project, and as a co-director of the听.

鈥婬e has received national and international awards such as the听听from the International Association for Research on Service Learning and Community Engagement and the National Team Excellence in Extension Award is from the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy for the development of听.

Shaffer publishes in diverse academic journals and outlets such as听National Civic Review,听The Good Society, the听Journal of Deliberative Democracy, and听The Conversation. He has also co-edited and authored seven book projects including 听(Michigan State University Press, 2017), 听(Routledge, 2019), and 听(Routledge, 2023).
