About the SNF Ithaca Initiative

SNF Ithaca, an initiative of the 91原创's Joseph R. Biden, Jr. School of Public Policy & Administration, seeks to advance democracy by equipping students with the civil discourse and civic engagement skills necessary to navigate the mediated public square. Supported by the , SNF Ithaca is named after the home of Odysseus鈥攐ne of Greek mythology's greatest heroes. For Odysseus, Ithaca represents not only the beginning of a journey but the ultimate destination. Likewise, the SNF Ithaca Initiative serves as both the beginning of the Biden School students' journey toward becoming engaged and effective citizens and as the ultimate destination for students across the country to come together and work in partnership to develop policy solutions.

Every student at the 91原创 can now enroll in the听, a program grounded in the Citizens, Civility, and Change course as well as initiative focus areas including governance, media, and leadership.听

For example,听SNF Ithaca Student Leaders听presented at the international conference听听鈥淎 Matter of Trust鈥�听hosted by iMEdD (incubator for Media Education and Development) in Athens听and authored their own response to the field of journalism in the report听听Education resources have also been developed from the collaborative SNF Ithaca x iMEdD Media & Democracy Summit.

In addition to the student experience, SNF Ithaca is听a national hub for scholars through convenings like the听SNF Ithaca Leadershi鈥媝 Summit,听research and publications by Biden School faculty such as听听white papers from SNF Ithaca Research Scholars听and opportunities like the听SNF Ithaca Fellows听program that brings in scholars and practitioners to broaden how we understand and study democratic citizenship.

The听All Politics is Personal听video series, inspired by President Joe Biden鈥檚 adage that 鈥渁ll politics is personal,鈥� introduces viewers to the person behind the politician, driving home the point that we can find commonality, humanity and civility even with people with whom we disagree politically.
